one way to REST
In light of Labor Day in the USA, I have a question for you today.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁?
I tend to resist rest.
I’ve never had an “off” switch that makes me rest, decompress, chill out, or *cringe* 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅.
I always had things to do, people to see, worlds to conquer. I’d try to relax on a vacation, or in leisure time with friends, but ended up feeling antsy or working triple time before + after in order to feel better about being “lazy.”
Over the last two years, I’ve had to learn how to rest as it’s key to brain injury recovery.
The topic of rest came up for me today because I hit a wall today.
My post concussion syndrome symptoms reared their ugly heads today, and I had the difficult choice of a) pushing through and paying for it tomorrow, or b) adjusting my entire day to take care of myself and hopefully feel better tomorrow.
i chose option b
Today has not gone like I planned and that’s okay. I’m choosing to REST today because that’s what I need right now.
In honor of Labor Day, I thought I’d share this #mindfulminute with you. I came up with it today, because it was what I needed today.
Today’s mindful minute is a simple tool to REST (a handy acronym for the steps of the tool) and check in.
Try it, right now. Whatever you’re doing, take one minute to do this exercise.
Remember that you can always download the slide and save it to your phone (when we’re stressed, we will not naturally remember to be mindful!).
Now that you have practiced the tool . . .
What do you notice?
Try to answer without judgement. Whatever you notice is simply what you noticed; it’s not right, wrong, or indifferent.
Can you make a reminder to yourself to do this once a day this week??
last thing . . .
What’s one thing you can do for yourself to rest today?
I’d love to hear! Comment below!
