Do you ever notice what you say to yourself?

This weekend I was reminded to listen to my self talk.

I was feeling tired, frustrated, overwhelmed, and out of control. Covid19 is getting worse and worse in Arizona, with no end in sight.

I felt helpless: I’m staying at home as much as possible, as I have been doing since early March. At great detriment to my finances, I’ve made difficult decisions to protect my clients health and my own.

I hit a low point. And in listening to so many others, I know I am not alone in this.

Then I saw something that shifted my awareness.

I saw a stack of Post-It notes on my table. I remembered an exercise I did a few years ago at yoga teacher training. Paired with a partner, we each had three minutes to speak. The partner wrote anything we said about ourselves on a Post It, and placed the Post It on our bodies.

That was a mind-blowing moment.

our self talk plays into how we act, react, and see the world.

If I say “I’m tired” continually, I drive the message in that I am in fact tired! That colors what I choose to do, which affects how I feel, which continues a vicious cycle.

The good news?

This cycle can be reversed and used to our advantage!

”I am…” using affirmations to support.

I use an affirmation to create how I want to be in this world. For instance, when I’m stressed out I can take a deep breath and say, “I am CALM.” I don’t think too hard about it; I let whatever comes up come out.

Give it a try!

Sit up or stand up.

Breathe deeply.

Close your eyes, if that helps you to connect.

Say (out loud if you can), “I am — “

You can do this again, or simply open your eyes.

I made a video with this mindful moment and put it up on my instagram. Click here to view!

thank you for reading! As always, I love to hear your feedback.

Take good care!
