Well + Being Day Twenty: From Mindless to Mindful

today’s exercise
Several years ago, while I was in grad school, it was recommended that I practice mindfulness.
I hated it.
I started with an eight-week mindfulness session that had a weekly two-hour meeting, with daily homework.
I honestly couldn’t even force myself to be mindful for each session. I struggled with going from mindless activity 24/7 (a coping mechanism) to failing miserably with even getting through a five-minute body scan.
My point in sharing this perspective is simple: if you’re struggling with mindfulness, you are not alone.
Today we are taking an activity that is usually mindless, and making it mindful.
I recommend something simple like brushing your teeth or making your bed.
