Meet Dr. Megan Daley (and Jinx!) of Move On the Daley!

it surprises me to realize I haven’t actually met this woman in person yet!

Today I’m featuring Dr Megan Daley of Move On the Daley (boy do I love creative business names that utilize one’s own name!). She is a doctor of physical therapy, an avid Crossfitter, a dog mom to Jinx (pictured above), a professional whose content I always look forward to, but most importantly, she is a rad human.

Dr Daley is a woman who, when she asks how you are, truly cares to hear your “real” answer.

She is a woman who, when I messaged to let her know I was running a bit late on publishing her feature, said, “Your mental and emotional wellbeing ALWAYS comes first.”

As you read this feature, it’s my belief that every ounce of the caring, kind, compassionate woman will come through these words and hit you right in the heart.

It sure did for me!!

What lights you up inside? 

 Seeing the lights come on with hope in my patient's eyes when they realize they're not broken and have hope again.

Kinda goes along with the above, but educating others just how much movement IS medicine (and how to better perform movement) Also solo hiking and travel - and inspiring others to do more of it for themselves

·      A book I love is....Untamed. Just finished and it's SO GOOD!! Outside of the "self help" type books, I love The Nightingale.

·      My biggest unicorn dream is to...Become an international speaker on movement as medicine for physical, emotional, and mental health. (Esp moving through grief)

·      I serve my community by...Helping others learn how to move better and trust the resiliency of their bodies to get back to doing the activities they love. And also currently by chalk art 😉

·      The one thing I can't live without is...Ice cream (dairy free). And fizzy water. Ok, ok fine, I'd survive without. Barely. Oh and dance!!!!

·      My favorite lululemon item is...Ohhh tie between my align leggings and my vinyasa scarf!! Both are must-items for when I travel

What do you like most about your favorite lululemon product?

The leggings legit feel like you're wearing clouds! So comfy and very versatile. I've worn them for workouts, but I've also paired them with cute boots and a top for a night out.

The scarf is amazing. I've used it as a blanket crashing in hostels, over my eyes trying to sleep on an airplane, wrapped around my face to block dust while on a dune buggy, and just as a really cute scarf with an outfit.

Tell us about this one thing you can't live without!

So I jokingly said ice cream and fizzy water. And those really are two things that I consume on a daily basis. In fact, I tend to put ice cream in my macros first thing in the day so I make sure I don't go overboard earlier.

But the real answer for the one thing that I can't live without is solo time outside. That's the absolute best way I have found to recenter myself. Sometimes that's a really long challenging hike, sometimes that's just sitting in my hammock without my phone nearby and just listening to the sounds around me. I can definitely tell when I've gone too long without getting out in nature alone with just me and my thoughts.

Oh and I thought of another thing that I can't live without. Dance. Whether it be out country or salsa dancing or just being weird by myself in my living room 😂

How do you practice kindness to your body?

Movement of some kind every day. 4-5 days a week, it's a more intense workout, and the other days it could just be taking the dog for a walk for 30 minutes. but at least 30 minutes of movement every single day. And listening to what my body needs that day for movement (ie giving myself grace when it needs one of those lighter days, but then pushing it when needed).

Also, I've been following macros for the better part of 3 years and try to follow the general guidelines of eat less sugar, eat more fiber (but also still fit in ice cream. In moderation. Because #mindhealth)

What else do you want to share with our community?

Well, as some may know, I got into physical therapy after multiple years of surgeries and injuries myself. One of those more recently was a tear in my shoulder, which I was able to come back from without surgery or even taking extra time off the gym. I just completed and published an e-book outlining exactly how I did that! It gives exactly what I did from exercises to sleeping positions and everything in between. So definitely check that out under the products tab on my website if you're dealing with some shoulder pain!

Also through quarantine, I have a discount running on telehealth sessions for physical therapy and performance rehab! Great for anyone who is dealing with a nagging pain or just wants to improve their mobility, strength, or technique in a certain movement or position! Particularly if it's a CrossFit movement.

And I haven't really announced this much, but I'm oncology rehab certified. In general oncology, breast cancer, and head and neck cancer. Through the quarantine, if anyone with a current or past history of cancer who is having residual side effects such as muscle tension post radiation or chemoside effects, have them DM me to get a free one hour telehealth session to go over what they can be doing right now to make improvements 💜 (oncology patients are a passion of mine as I was my dad's caregiver for his 4 months battling lung cancer).

And lastly, I just want to give a gentle reminder to give yourself some grace with all the uncertainty in the world right now. I know many people, myself included, are dealing on and off with a little extra fatigue, heightened nervous system symptoms, etc. Listen to your body and mind and what it needs in the moment. Some days you need to have intense exercise in order to be more present and allow feelings in. Other days, your stress may put you closer to a threshold of what your muscles can take and you need to take it lighter.
