self love : why is appreciation so hard?

Perfectionism and self-criticism are two topics I see + hear so many women struggling with on a daily basis.

Me too, girls.

My motto before my traumatic brain injury was to “do it all, do it perfectly, and never let anyone see me sweat.”

It all looked great on the outside, and yet on the inside I had a negative track pushing me along.

After my brain injury, I was no longer able to keep up with my old mantra. I physically could not do much.

The problem was, I still had the innate drive to do it on my own and hide all the imperfections my brain injury wouldn’t let me hide away.

i had to change

That’s why I picked today’s mindful minute exercise!

With love, from me

Today’s mindful minute is to write a letter of appreciation to the most important person in your life: YOU!

It may be your worst nightmare to have to write a letter to yourself (when given this assignment in therapy, I wanted to melt through the floor).

Do it anyway.

Our brains will keep up the negative, harsh track that we have become accustomed to (often since birth). A visual reminder can be a game changer in helping to heal and change to a kinder self talk.

after you write the letter, save it as your phone background

This is an old love letter I wrote myself, currently my phone background.

It takes time, consistency, and commitment to change our self talk. You are worth the time. You are worth the energy. You are worth the commitment.
